Tree Planting Project: Overview

In 2021, BaDL worked with the Scenic Rim Regional Council (SRRC) and local primary schools to plant trees.

When and what?

In 2021, BaDL worked with the Scenic Rim Regional Council (SRRC) and local primary schools to plant trees along Boonah’s Bruckner Hill Road as well as around school ovals at Boonah SS, Warrill View SS, Mt Alford SS and Boonah All Saints.

Tubestock of endemic species were provided by SRRC’s Million Trees program: Cassia tomentella (velvet cassia), Cupaniopsis parvifolia (small-leaved tuckeroo), Eucalyptus terreticornis (forest red gum), Bridelia leichhardtii (small-leaved brush iron bark), Grevillea robusta (silky oak) and Mangifera indica (Kensington pride mango).

Outcomes for Bruckner Hill Road?

  • beautification
  • carbon capturing
  • increased wildlife habitat, particularly for koala, crimson rosella and superb blue wren
  • providing shade along a popular walking track
  • community engagement with the known benefits for the environment, mental health and people.

Outcomes for schools?

  • shade and UV protection areas for sports days, PE and play
  • nature learning spaces with options for the school to add seating
  • wellbeing enhancement for both students and teachers through the creation of awe-inspiring spaces
  • increased wildlife habitat for sugar gliders, koalas, reptiles, bees, butterflies and birds
  • for hands-on teaching, eg. the process of carbon sequencing in an actual nature setting
  • for generational interaction between students and Landcare members of all ages
  • for stabilising the water table (in some cases)
